Shawn Matthias brings elite experience and a proven development approach to every Progression Hockey session. A 13-year NHL veteran—playing for the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, and Winnipeg Jets—Shawn also spent time in the AHL, one year in Europe, and four seasons in the OHL with Belleville after being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings. He is also a 2008 World Junior gold medalist with Team Canada. Each session focuses on skating, puck protection, fitness, and hockey IQ. Players train at a high tempo with drills that challenge pace, sharpen decision-making, and build habits that translate directly to game situations. Shawn teaches the same movement patterns, body positioning, and in-game concepts used at the pro level, ensuring players develop both the physical tools and the mental awareness required to succeed. His skating work emphasizes stride power, balance, and edge control, while puck protection sessions focus on maintaining possession under pressure. Fitness is built naturally through competitive reps, and hockey IQ is layered into every drill through situational reads and game-like scenarios. High-energy and detail-driven, Shawn’s sessions give players practical skills ranging from fundamental techniques to advanced concepts used at the highest levels of hockey.
